Fissures are grooves that occur naturally on the biting (and sometimes other) surfaces of teeth. Sometimes these grooves can be very narrow and deep, and therefore can be hard to clean. Such fissures are more prone to decay than smooth surfaces of teeth.
To prevent decay in these grooves, Dr Goyal may recommend Fissure Sealants.
Fissure Sealants are usually resin-based, and are flowed into the fissures of a cleaned tooth and allowed to set.
Fissure sealants may wear down over time and may need reapplication.
